Dr. John M Scalamandre PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS
Dr. John M Scalamandre has worked in Riverhead for 11 years. In 2001 John teamed up with Dr. Vincent J. Barry, PT, DPT, MTC, CSCS to open Maximum Performance Physical Therapy on Rte. 58 in Riverhead. John brings over 14 years of experience to Maximum Performance Physical Therapy. He graduated with his Masters degree in physical therapy from Touro College in 1993. He received his Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Creighton University in 2005, and is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Therapist (OCS), and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He has an eclectic background in various rehabilitation settings. Upon graduation John worked at St. Charles Hospital inpatient rehabilitation. He received extensive postgraduate training and experience in neuro-physiological rehabilitation. In 1996, John received training in advanced orthopedic manual therapy techniques based on the osteopathic model under the direction of the distinguished lecturer and clinician, Jeffery J. Ellis, PT, MTC, FFCFMT. John gained expertise in evaluating and treating dysfunction of the craniovertebral, spinal, pelvic girdle, TMJ and extremities. John has been working in the Riverhead area since 1997 at St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Network where he was appointed lead clinical physical therapist and clinical instructor (CCCI). John has also expanded his expertise to a specialization in the treatment of infants with Congenital Muscular Torticollis (CMT). John is also active in the NY chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), working numerous times in Albany to fight for patient rights. Dr. Scalamandre also volunteers extensive time to the local school district working side by side with the Athletic trainers and Athletic Director to make sure that athletes are well cared for when they are injured and rehabilitating to return to play. John is happily married to his wife Michele and they are very busy with their athletic boys ages 10 and 12.
Dr. Vincent J. Barry, PT, DPT, OCS, MTC, CSCS
Dr. Vincent Barry has been working in Riverhead for over 12 years. In 2001 he opened up his private practice, Maximum Performance Physical Therapy with his partner Dr. John Scalamandre PT, DPT, OCS on Rt. 58 in Riverhead NY. Vincent brings over 25 years of physical therapy experience to Maximum Performance Physical Therapy. He received his Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Touro College. In 2005 he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Creighton University. He has undergone extensive postgraduate training in advance manual therapy techniques and sports medicine rehabilitation. Vincent is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as well as a Certified Manual Therapist (MTC). He has also completed extensive studies in the osteopathic approach to manual therapy specializing in the evaluation and treatment of spinal dysfunction. Vincent has also instructed in undergraduate and post- graduate courses at the local and national level through the Institute of Physical Art under the directorship of nationally renowned lecturer/physical therapist, the late Jeffrey J. Ellis M.S., P.T., M.T.C., FFCFMT. Currently Vincent is also an adjunct faculty member at SUNY Stony Brook in their Doctoral Physical Therapy Program. Vincent is also very active in the NY chapter American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and is currently on the practice committee board.
Dr. Barry also currently volunteers on several boards for local organizations including the Aid to the Developmental Disabled (ADD) and the Timothy Hill Ranch.
Vincent is happily married to Dr. Catherine Barry PT, DPT, and Director of the Greenport satellite office. They are proud parents of three beautiful active daughters.
Dr. Catherine Barry PT, DPT
Dr. Catherine M. Barry PT, DPT is the clinical director of Maximum Performance Physical Therapy's Greenport location. Catherine is originally from Albany, New York. She graduated from Maria College in Albany with an Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant in 1983. After relocating to Long Island in 1986, she continued her education and in 1991 graduated with high honors from Hunter College in New York City with her Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy. Most recently, Catherine earned her Doctorate Degree (DPT) from Boston University. Catherine has worked in various settings with the majority of her time in outpatient orthopedics and home care. Catherine has developed a comprehensive program in evaluating and treating people who have developed Balance Disorders and are at risk of falling. Catherine has taken many continuing education courses with a primary focus on orthopedic manual therapy and sports rehabilitation.
Gary Despres, PT, CSCS
Gary Despres received his MS in Physical Therapy from Springfield College in 2006. He brings much enthusiasm and innovative ideas to our practice. Upon graduation Gary worked in the outpatient department of New York University Medical Center where the population varied from complex neurological to orthopedic. Gary has a special interest in sports rehabilitation. He recently became Certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Gary has been participating in triathlon events since 2005 and anticipates racing in his first marathon in 2008.
